To whom it may concern (employment positions in Cambodia or Sth East Asia) I am writing in regards to positions of employment in the social work, public health, primary health, mental health, human rights, child rights and protection, HIV / AIDS and Drug and Alcohol) that may become available I wish to apply for these positions and have attached my resume. In 1996-1997 I completed 3 certificates one a Certificate 3 in community services and health � including a Certificate 4 in youth work and Certificate 4 in community development with TAFE � SA. In 2001 I completed my Bachelor of Social Work degree a 4 year degree at University of SA. In 2005 I completed a Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Sciences (Community Mental Health) from Monash University in Victoria with a Distinction average. I am also enrolled and studying my Masters in Social Work at Monash University since July 08 and expect to be completed in Nov 09. I also received a scholarship for this degree thru the Queensland Centre of Mental Health Learning government Dept. Currently I work in Queensland government Health Dept at Maroochydore mental health in the Acute Care Team my duties include Social work as part of a multidisciplinary team in the provision of assertive and acute care management service, which responds to the needs of clients. Incorporating an outreach service and working with clients within the community and using triage, risk assessment and short term acute management and organising discharge and follow up. Working with related service providers, families and significant others. Working on a 7 day roster from the hours of 8:00am to 10:30pm. In this team I also work at a hospital mental health assessment team in the emergency dept completing mental health assessments and triage from the general public, police and ambulance. Before this i was employed and working in a State Government Health Department in WA. of Mental Health at SWAN adult community mental health as a senior social worker and previously at Mead centre Armadale Health Service WA as a senior social worker since Feb 2007 my duties include Social work as part of a multidisciplinary team in the provision of assertive and clinical case management service, which responds to the needs of clients, families, carers and significant others. Incorporating an outreach service and working with clients, families, carers and significant others within the community and inpatient setting. Working with related service providers, NGO�s families, carers and significant others. Working on a duty roster and also duties as senior social worker and supervision of other social workers and student social workers. Previously to this I was a permanent senior social worker in state government dept in SA Nth mental health my duties included Senior social work level with 0.5 clinical case load and 0.5 developmental role. To increase MAC (mobile assertive care) capacity. To increase flow through by increasing or strengthening opportunities for consumers, families, carers and significant others to gain support for self management from a range of community providers. To improve outcomes for consumers by developing options for ongoing social / vocational / educational / personal support and opportunities to participate in community life. I was involved with children with parents with a mental illness, community meetings with council representatives, SA police, school principals and SA child protection as an inter agency service involving all services in the council district and to achieve better outcomes for all clients, carers, families and significant others in the council catchments area. Previous to this I worked in Nth Mental Health SA in an assessment and treatment service (community ATS) as a social worker, which I completed for 3 years. Previous to this I worked in State Government hospitals in forensic mental health and other community mental health settings as a social worker all together for the past 5 years in SA. Which included working with clients, families, carers and significant others. As well as running educational groups and weekly group meetings in Forensic mental Health hospitals. Previous to this as an undergraduate I was a qualified youth worker doing volunteer work in juvenile prisons (with Aboriginal and Vietnamese youth) and community activities as well as paid youth work in youth hostels and with Aboriginal crime prevention program. A highlight to my undergraduate degree was in my 3rd yr placement I gained an international scholarship to work in Cambodia with street children with NGO Save the Children that saw me work in Cambodia for approx 6 months in Child Protection in a developing country with little infrastructure. I am interested in working in Cambodia as i have a strong commitment in professional and academic life to lead, analyse, and problem solve to develop and implement strategies for social work and working with consumers, their carers, families and significant others. I also have a strong commitment to social justice, human dignity and worth and self determination. I also believe my knowledge and academic skills are a valuable asset. My wife is also Khmer and I have family in Cambodia as another reason for wanting to live and work in Cambodia. I bring with me skills in forensic mental health and adult community mental health having worked with clients, carers, families and significant others and with tools of assessment, clinical and assertive case management and skills in formulating and assessing risk to self or others. As well as leadership and initiative skills in having supervised other social workers, social work students, police cadets, nurses and 6th year medical students as well as orientating and assisting new or inexperienced staff. I also supervised Cambodian staff in a country with little infrastructure. My work has also included working with community service providers and co facilitated community councils inter agency development around mental health. I have worked with clients, families and significant others from a culturally and linguistically diverse background. I also want to accept new challenges and believe a role in the Cambodia would give me the opportunity to do this. I would be available for an interview at any convenient time should I be granted one.
