PM's wife visits China project

Therese Rein, wife of the Australian Prime Minister, recently visited one of the Ministry of Health/Peking University/AAMH 686 Project sites in China.

The landmark 686 Project is aimed at building community mental health capacity across China. Commencing in 2004 with seed funding from the Chinese government, the project will soon have 4 community mental health pilot sites operating in every province in China. Demonstrating the success of the project, the Chinese government has recently doubled its funding. AusAID, which has previously not sponsored any mental health projects, has also recently agreed to support this momentous project.

Organised by AusAID, Therese Rein visited one of the sites of the 686 project on Wednesday 9th April, 2008. She was hosted by Prof. Yu Xin.
