RANZCP is sponsoring 2 Chinese psychiatrists to complete AAMH's training program in disaster mental health management.
This intensive 6 week training program, held in both Sydney and Melbourne, furthers the collaboration in disaster mental health between AAMH and Peking University Institute of Mental Health begun with the AusAID-sponsored Protecting Children in Disasters Project and continued with the Sichuan Earthquake Mental Health First Aid Training.
Dr Ning Ma and Dr Hong Lin, both from Peking University's Institute of Mental Health, were sponsored by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) to undertake the disaster mental health training program. Both psychiatrists were heavily involved in the Sichuan training in May 2008.
The two psychiatrists are undertaking a packed program which includes the following site visits/placements: the University of Western Sydney with Prof. Beverley Raphael; the Cunningham Dax Collection; Group Crisis Intervention training; the Australian Centre for Posttraumatic Mental Health; Australian Red Cross; the Veteran's Psychiatry Unit at the Austin Repatriation Hospital and the Emergency Management Branch at the Victorian Government Department of Human Services.
AAMH would like to thank all who have contributed to the Fellows' training program particularly RANZCP.
