WPA praises Asia-Pacific project

World Psychiatric Association President Mario Maj recently described the Asia-Pacific Community Mental Health Development Project as “a source of inspiration and encouragement”.

 

Professor Maj’s comments are included in the most recent edition of the official WPA Bulletin as part of a twelve page article dedicated to the Asia-Pacific Community Mental Health Development (APCMHD) Project. Download an e-copy of the WPA Bulletin.

 

In his introductory commentary, Professor Maj indicated: “This lively and interesting collection of exemplary experiences can be extremely useful to psychiatrists, other mental health professionals and policy makers of the Asia-Pacific region as well as of other areas of the world, representing a source of inspiration and encouragement”.

 

He concluded by stating: “The WPA will be pleased to support the further development of this initiative, and to provide its help and advice to other regions wishing to follow this example”.

 

The APCMHD Project, facilitated by AAMH, commenced in 2005. Currently involving high level government representation and mental health leaders from fourteen countries across the Asia-Pacific region, the project seeks to inspire culturally sensitive best practice in community mental health across the region.
