Projects

2010

In March 2010, AAMH hosted a delegation of senior mental health practitioners and hospital directors from across the province of Guangdong. The aim was to build an understanding of the Australian approach to community mental health service delivery and reflect on possible adaptations for Guangdong province.

The week-long visit allowed the delegation to observe key components of the Victorian mental health system, and develop a deeper understanding of community mental health.

The trip was tailored to meet this group’s interest and site visits to St Vincent’s mental health units, the Mental Illness Fellowship, and the Cunningham Dax collection, were combined with sessions led by high level Victorian government representatives, Dr Ruth Vine, Chief Psychiatrist, Mental Health, Drugs and Regions Division, Department of Health, and Mr. Martin Turnbull, Assistant Director, Mental Health and Drugs Strategy, Mental Health and Drugs Division.

In March 2010, Margaret Goding, Manager, Partnerships, AAMH, Assoc Prof Alex Cockram, Executive Director, NorthWestern Mental Health, and Assoc Prof Ravi Bhat, Director of Psychiatry, Goulburn Valley Mental Health traveled to China to participate in mental health human resources management training in Hebei and Guangdong province.  This unique training program was part of AAMH and Peking university collaboration for the development of protocols.
