Mainland China's deep commitment to, and rapid development of, community mental health services (see 686 Project) has resulted in a need to develop significant capacity in their existing mental health workforce. To respond to this demand,  Asia-Australia Mental Health, The Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Institute of Mental Health Peking University have collaborated to develop and deliver a culturally sensitive, 686 tripartite training program in case management for mental health workers across China. As part of this training program, AAMH has facilitated a "train-the-trainer" workshop for case managers in Hong Kong to assist them to become trainers for their mental health colleagues in mainland China (Read more).

In conjunction with the Victorian Government Department of Human Services, AAMH hosted a high level delegation of hospital administrators from Hong Kong in August, 2007. The delegation was led by Ms Margaret TAY, Chief Manager (Integrated Care Programme), Hong Kong Hospital Authority Head Office. The aim was to build an understanding of the Australian approach to community mental health service delivery and reflect on the implications for Hong Kong.

Following the delegation's visit, Dr Ruth Vine, (Director, Mental Health Branch, Victorian Government Department of Health and Services) and Dr Margaret Grigg, (Senior Nurse Advisor, Mental Health Branch, Victorian Government Department of Human Services), undertook a comprehensive review of Hong Kong's mental health services at the request of the Hospital Authority in December 2007.
