Asia Pacific Community Mental Health Development (APCMHD)  Project

This landmark project will illustrate and inspire best practice in community mental health care in the in the Asia-Pacific region. A high-level network of mental health government officials, chief psychiatrists and research leaders from fourteen countries/regions is being formed through the project. Countries/regions currently involved are: Australia, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

 

In a Special Meeting and Symposium at the World Psychiatric Association 2007 International Congress in Melbourne, representatives from each country involved in the APCMHD Project presented their Country Reports which outlined the current status of community mental health services in their country and local exemplars of best practice.  All presentations illlustrated a commitment to the universal principles of community mental health care. Tthey also celebrated the creativity of the diverse models of community mental health care found in our region.

The next stage of the project will be to publish and disseminate project materials.  It is anticipated this publication will be officially launched at the next Asia Pacific Community Mental Health Development Project Meeting to be held at the WPA International Congress in Prague in September 2008.

 

AAMH is grateful for the support of the Australian Government's Department of Health and Ageing to publish and disseminate materials from this project.

 

The Proceedings from the first meeting of the Project (held as part of the RANZCP Congress in 2006) are also available [pdf, 1.13 MB, 24 pages]. They summarise existing community mental health resources, policies and practices in the Asia-Pacific region.
